On its site, the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) reports that more people are turning to massage therapy for medical purposes rather than for relaxation. Its most recent survey reports 24% of adult Americans received one massage during 2007 (just to mention, 43% adult women and 25% adult men had a massage during the last five years). But the baby boomers are more committed to massage than the young with an average seven session in the last year. This reflects a general trend. More people now use massage as a component in their wellness programs or pain management strategies. This does not deny the importance of tramadol or other painkillers. They are complementary.

Almost one-third of those surveyed used massage for pain relief, injury rehabilitation or the control of migraines, and just over 85% agreed that massage improves health and promotes wellness. This represents a groundswell in favor of physical therapy with 20% reporting that their doctors and healthcare providers had strongly encouraged massage. This is echoed in figures from the registered AMTA members. Almost three-fifths reported an increase in referrals from healthcare professionals. The use of massage therapy in hospitals is also rising with a one-third increase in the number of hospitals nationally offering therapy for pain and stress management. If it was better integrated into healthcare, the AMTA believes there would be a significant improvement in quality of treatment for chronic pain and stress. Massage with a judicious use of tramadol is good for you.

This year has seen the seventh opinion survey by the American Dietetic Association. It has been monitoring attitudes towards diet and nutrition since 1991 with irregular surveys. In this most recent, the headline is that three-quarters of those surveyed refused to give up the food they liked, with 80% stating there was no need to change their current diet. Now, as headlines go, this could be good or bad. If everyone liked healthy food in smaller portions, they would not have to give up anything they liked in order to maintain a low body weight.

Since the ability to lose weight depends on a willingness to change what you eat, the headline is more likely bad news. No matter how good a drug like acomplia - in clinical trials, participants lost an average of 10% of their body weight - it only works in conjunction with diet and exercise. For the purpose of analysis, the survey divides people into three groups. Just over 40% claimed they were already taking the action necessary to reduce their weight. Just under 40% fell into the “guilt” group, i.e. they knew they should and would just as soon as they could but, until then, they would just feel guilty about not doing it.

All the Association can say is that more people seem to be aware of the need to think about their diet and the need to take some exercise. The majority, however, seem focused on the belief that there will soon be a miracle cure. As it stands, acomplia and the other appetite suppressants rely on the individuals to diet and exercise. Most seem to be waiting for the mythical “fat-buster” - a tablet that will produce instant weight loss with no pain. As a group, women claim to be more responsible when it comes to dieting, but neither gender has any real interest in exercise. Both sexes seem to have a slightly better awareness of health issues such as those involving the use of trans-fat, but this is yet to translate into action to eliminate “bad” foods and eat smaller portions on a less frequent basis.

This August has seen an interesting recommendation from the US Preventative Services Task Force. Men aged more than 75 years should not be screened for prostate cancer. Indeed, younger men should be counseled on whether screening is necessary or desirable. Why should the medical profession, which is supposed to be there to save lives, be leaving older men out of the diagnosis and treatment loop?

Prostate cancer grows quite slowly and men are likely to die of old age before the cancer kills them. Indeed, if men are diagnosed with cancer, this is distressing. The men and their families obviously worry. The Task Force argues it is better not to know. If men do begin to have problems with erectile dysfunction, they can simply take cheap variant of Levitra which almost inevitably allows sexual activity to resume.Letting life take its course is the kindest option.

Surgery more often than not does cause sexual problems that Levitra can only partially solve. Thus, if there are no serious symptoms to investigate, it’s better not to look. Taking biopsies is invasive and can be painful. Some of the medications and treatments short of surgery can cause impotence.

It’s a sad fact of life that not enough doctors are coming through their training and entering general practice. The majority reject the longer hours and poor pay in favor of the high status and better paid work in hospitals. The result is towns and cities find themselves without primary healthcare, an accelerating problem as older doctors retire. This makes pain controversial. How much time does it take to distinguish between the genuine patients who need drugs like tramadol to get a better quality of life, and the drug abusers who want to get high or the dealers looking for product to sell on the streets. As it is, there is a single irony. Patients come to doctors because they cannot cope. The few doctors struggle to cope because so many people are in pain and need help. Those practitioners who remain find time in short supply. When one patient walks through the door for a consultation, tens more wait outside. The best that they can do is to react to the symptoms described by their patients. That means a quick prescription of tramadol instead of a more holistic approach. In a perfect world, the physician would look at the patient as a person losing mobility, under threat at work because the lifting and carrying is too difficult, friendships and marriage under pressure because this is all too stressful to manage.

Headlines are the life blood of newspapers. Ever since the “Man bites dog” story, we’ve had every kind of animal story. Now this is the ultimate cat story because the headline misses out the vital reference to squirrels. Yes, it was a double attack. The cat and the killer squirrels would have been more accurate. But we don’t do sensationalism for its own sake here. We kept it simple. So you have to travel over to Smith Valley in Nevada. Simmons’ cat was sick. She had visited with the local veterinarian to get drugs. One day, Richie cut her finger but thought nothing of it as she tended to the cat. A few days later, she was flat on her back with a high fever. It took a month for the lab to identify the problem. She had tularemia. Huh? Well, back in 1911 (so long ago?!?) there was a disease that almost wiped out the squirrel population in Tulare, California so they called it tularemia (creative!). One thing - it was highly contagious between humans and animals. How did the cat come to be infected? Did the cat travel back in time or just visit with some squirrel cousins in California? Who knows. It died before we could ask. The good news Doxycycline was an almost instant cure. Just goes to show. Once you know which bacteria are making you sick, you get the antibiotic and get better fast.

Once upon a time, long long ago, there were five young ladies who were called the Spice Girls. One of them, born Victoria, was given the kind nick of Posh (a word meaning classy and elegant which she was until she opened her mouth and spoke). Now, her claim to fame is that she’s married to a footballer who can’t kick the ball in a straight line. Anyway, Posh is prone to get acne - not quite what you would expect of someone so, well, Posh. But she’s finally found the cure. While the rest of the world fights acne with Accutane, the footballer’s wife is mainlining natto. This is a favorite of the Japanese who make the stuff by fermenting soy beans. Guess what? It’s full of essential vitamins that fix scarred skin. Now, I gotta tell you. Natto has a taste that’s best not described and it’s best approached from up wind because it’s not overflowing with natural perfume. Back in the good old days when people really were posh, they used to go to spa towns to take the waters. That also tasted vile and smelled worse, but the classiest could make it look like they were sipping champagne. We’re all waiting for pictures of Posh downing her beans. For those of you not into has-beens, there’s still Accutane for acne. No smell and swallowed whole so no taste problem but, hey, you can’t have everything unless you’re either rich or Japanese (or both).

For the vast majority of all men who suffer from erectile dysfunction, the only real choice about treatment will be whether to take Viagra, Cialis or Levitra - perhaps on its own or in combination with other treatment. Given that almost all men can get relief from erectile dysfunction (ED) quickly and easily, there is no reason to delay getting help.

Why should you go to see a doctor? There seem to be private clinics around that offer a confidential service. By clinic, we mean an organisation that provides health care and advice in the community rather than as a part of a hospital. Some clinics are run by registered physicians, others are staffed by qualified nurses, physiotherapists and other second-line medical service personnel. There are also clinics run by corporations with no formally qualified medical staff in place.

However you might want to deny it, ED is a medical condition and it can be the symptom of quite serious diseases and disorders. If you do not go to consult a person who is licensed by your country to practice as a doctor/physician, you are risking your health. The person you see may well be very pleasant and reassuring but, without detailed knowledge and access to a laboratory where sophisticated tests can be performed, you may not get a proper diagnosis. All that may happen is that you pay money for words of comfort that later prove to be worthless.

A doctor has years of education and training and can give you a proper examination, apply scientific tests to arrive at a definitive diagnosis, and prescribe appropriate medication. In most countries only registered physicians or, sometimes, pharmacists are allowed to prescribe regulated medications. Unqualified individuals can only refer you on to qualified specialists or hospitals for full diagnostic testing or treatment. Seeing anyone other than a medically qualified individual can be a dangerous waste of money. If you attend a “clinic” and there is any doubt in your mind as to whether the individual proposing to treat you is a doctor, ask for proof of accreditation.

So who might you go to see?

The advantage of consulting your own physician is that he or she has immediate access to your medical records. Any new round of diagnostic testing can therefore start off with good quality baseline information about you and your family’s health. You also “know” each other. The ice is broken. Sometimes there can be social awkwardness in opening a discussion with a complete stranger about such a private matter.

But, equally, some people would always want to discuss this particular condition with a new doctor.
If your usual doctor is a woman, you may find the idea of a physical examination too embarrassing and therefore prefer to consult a male doctor. Alternatively, you may prefer a complete stranger. Some men value their image and reputation highly, and feel that they will lose face by disclosing this particular condition to someone who knows them.

You may prefer the idea of going directly to an expert in sexual dysfunction, often a urologist or genitourinary specialist. The motive may be to save expense. Rather than having two consultations, one with a general practitioner and then a referral to a specialist, you cut out the first stage. You can ask a “friend” to recommend someone or use the directory services of state or local medical associations to pull a name from a list of people by specialism.

So now that you know who to consult, we will next look at what can you expect when you get there.

Just to repeat the general message running through these articles: if you are aged between forty and seventy years, you have a fifty/fifty chance of experiencing some degree of erectile dysfunction. Some 10% of you will have a complete failure of erections - more often, this affects older men. Alongside this news is the equally significant evidence of depressive illnesses. Researchers estimate that about a quarter of men will suffer some degree of anxiety or depression at some point during their lives. When this happens, the symptoms may not appear too serious and you will probably not seek treatment. But you are twice as likely to suffer decreased libido and ED than someone not depressed, leading you to reduce or avoid sexual contract for a while. Many of you will leave the depression, if such it is, untreated and buy Viagra, Cialis or Levitra online. This is an entirely understandable reaction. But it is always better to get a professional opinion before self-medicating.

Everyone who has a mental disorder will understand this. People who are depressed are told to “get a grip” or “snap out of it” as if emotions can be controlled at will. Those who suffer from panic or anxiety attacks are labelled “hysterical” and “unbalanced” which are hurtful words.

The public does not understand the true nature of mental disorders. This can produce fear because people do not know how to react if someone around them has an attack or because they think they may also be at risk of the same disorder. Prejudice and cruelty are the result. These reactions amplify the problem for the victims. If the disabled know that people will mock or criticise them if they have an anxiety or panic attack, they are more likely to avoid situations in which there may be stress. Carry this one step further and it becomes agoraphobia where they are too frightened to leave the house at all.

There are millions of people who suffer from anxiety and panic disorders, whether on their own or as a symptom of depression. To continue their everyday lives, they rely on xanax. Let us make a clear distinction. This is not like appearing on American Idol where contestants willingly risk humiliation to search for fame and fortune This is mundane existence: get through the door and drive to work to earn enough to live on. If that paycheck does not come at the end of the month, this is financial disaster. The advantage of xanax is that sufferers simply take a pill three or four times a day and this controls the more obvious symptoms. They can then walk around, doing their jobs with no-one any the wiser.

This points to another aspect of the problem. No-one likes to talk about these disorders. Even doctors have a reputation for being less than supportive so looking for treatment becomes more stressful. There is always the feeling that patients are being judged when they talk to others about how they feel. Research suggests that about 20% of people with anxiety and panic disorders do not get help, but xanax through the internet without first discussing the problems with a doctor. While this is understandable, it is not necessarily wise. Therapy and counselling are the most reliable long-term “cures”. Xanax simply keeps the symptoms at bay and should only be used over short periods of time.

But fear can affect people in another way. Even though they may eventually accept the need to get treatment, they may also fear what the medications will do to their bodies. Anxiety and panic are not necessarily “rational”. No matter what evidence they may read or hear about safety, even the slightest risk of side effects can seem daunting. Do we trust what our doctor tells us? Do we think the drug companies are completely honest about all the risks? The fact that the more obvious symptoms of anxiety and panic can be controlled in 70% of patients within the first two or three weeks of starting a course of xanax simply leaves people worrying about what happened to the other 30%. The explanation is that it takes time and patience to follow a course of treatment and this allows people to fall prey to their anxieties. Many simply stop taking the medication or take it too infrequently for it to work well. Prejudice in all of us can perpetuate anxiety and panic disorders.

Smoking also accelerates arteriosclerosis and this can reduce the flow of blood into the penis. The combination of diabetes and smoking not only encourages ED but also increases the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

The problem is the inhaled carbon monoxide. It combines with the haemoglobin in the red blood cells and limits the capacity of the cells to carry oxygen around the circulatory system. The lack of oxygen leads to a hardening of the artery walls and a reduction in the amount of blood that reaches the peripheral extremities of the body (including the penis and testicles). Worse, it also contributes to a general loss of libido and a reduction in the sperm count. We all probably enjoy a little drink of alcohol from time to time. It tends to make social events go more smoothly. Unfortunately, the more we drink the greater the potential damage to the blood vessels. Alcohol increases blood pressure. In the short term, sexual performance may improve because we are less inhibited (no performance anxiety) but, if this should tip into excess and alcoholism, ED usually results. The best answer is always prevention. Never smoking, whether actively or passively, preserves our health. Similarly, never drinking excessively and then only drinking a little red wine every day, reduces the risks of heart disease. If we started to smoke, stopping immediately is the ideal. If there are signs of ED, taking cialis will probably be sufficient to restore full function. But if the damage is too great, then further medications may be required. Should you have reached the tipping point into alcoholism and a loss of libido, there are programs that help you to quit the alcohol, and there is always cialis to try to restore you interest in sex.
